A new paper in PLOS ONE on how the brain signals prediction errors about facial features within the first 140 ms.
Summary
The brain flags unexpected facial features within 140 ms
In this study, led by Cristiano Costa, we showed that EEG activity tracked precision-weighted prediction errors about facial features, peaking around 140 ms after the face appeared: predictions about what a face will do are checked and updated early in visual processing.
